If quitting smoking was easy, everyone would have done it by now. After all, the health effects are pretty well known. If you have tried to quit at any point in your life, however, you probably are aware that nicotine withdraw symptoms are no picnic. There are several different symptoms of nicotine withdrawal, and the experience of two smokers is never quite the same. Some of the most common symptoms are increased appetite, irritability, cigarette cravings, sleeplessness, depression, and an inability to focus. Psychological addiction is also a problem. A lot of people are used to having a cigarette at the end of the day as a way to relax and put things in perspective. Without that cigarette, they can not find a way to decompress.

Some nicotine withdraw symptoms clear up very quickly if you stick with it. Within the first week or two, you nicotine cravings should lessen somewhat. You will feel less agitated and fidgety, and much calmer than when you first quit smoking. Sometimes, however, the symptoms never go away quite fully. I haven’t smoked in years and I still crave a cigarette now and then. It took me about six months before I could go through a day without feeling a physical craving to some degree. Make no mistake about it – it has been a long hard road.

This is why it is so important to have a good support network when you are quitting smoking. It is especially useful to have someone who has gone through it all before to give you quit smoking tips. There are many different ways to deal with nicotine withdraw symptoms, and none of them work for everyone. Some people like to eat candy, others like to take a walk when they feel like smoking. It is all a matter finding what works for you.

The best advice I can give you is to stay with it. You will eventually overcome your nicotine withdrawal symptoms. Once enough time goes by, you realize that your desire to smoke has weakened enough that you can see things in perspective. Your health will be better, you will have more energy, and you’ll be less prone to illness. Even your remaining nicotine withdraw symptoms will seem like no big deal compared to all the health benefits you will have received. It might seem like a long time when you first quit smoking, but it isn’t ever as long as it seems.
