Our gardens are a retreat from the world, offering a colorful place to relax with friends and family. They may be an English country garden, a city rooftop garden or a Japanese themed Zen garden. Whether they contain a manicured lawn or fashionable decking, they can gain from the inspirational ideas in the American produced Garden Design Magazine. The hard copy and online version has features on garden projects and advice. The magazine has received several awards, including the 2006 Best of Garden Magazine award, given by the New York Post. The Garden Writers Association awarded their Garden Globe Award of the Year to the publication in 2003. Gardening novices find the magazine particularly helpful as taking up gardening for the first time can seem quite daunting.
Readers can order back issues and buy a gift subscription for a friend. Subscribing online, instead of buying from a newsstand, saves money and new readers can order a free trial copy. The Garden Design Magazine has a product information service online, which includes services and products as advertised. There are a wide variety of products that readers can access, including greenhouses, conservatories and garden furniture. Garden sculpture and water features are linked too and material for decking and paving projects. Barbecue equipment is for sale and gardening tools, plants and seeds.
There is a regular Ask the Expert column, with advice on landscaping and garden furniture, flowers, plants, fruit and vegetables. The web site has various desktop wallpapers to download, including close up images of blooms, plants and different garden landscapes. The Garden Design Magazine organizes flower and garden shows across various cities, encouraging the public to get involved.
The UK publication, House and Garden is a familiar sight on magazine shelves and combines ideas for inside and outside the home. The aesthetic qualities for the garden are just as important as the interior. This garden design magazine is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2007 and there is an online picture gallery that shows photographs from past decades on various subjects. The Plantlife section shows an arrangement of chrysanthemums to represent the 1950s because the flower was a favorite at that time. One of the most popular items in the garden design magazine is the feature on celebrity homes and gardens. All scenarios are explored and the December 2007 issue looks at the small, urban garden as seen in cities and the design possibilities within a small space.
